Getting started in Watercolors with a simple subject

Welcome to Fearless watercolors!

I am so glad you are taking this journey to explore watercolors in a unique way to explore the beauty of this medium and understand how to get great results.
This should be considered just a beginning as it takes an understanding of some basics and practice.
Here is a place you can find some of those basics to watercolors - I’ve created a few fast videos for you to watch and try:
Here too is a list of supplies - the better quality of your supplies, the better your results will be. Often students think since they are just starting off, they should buy the cheaper paints and paper. Don’t do this, what I’ve discovered is that you can not get good results with these student grade products. Buy the best you can ~ here is the list if you wish to continue to pursue this medium:
Start with a great photo, a simple subject matter and create a contour drawing of the elements you want to paint. Start small... Be sure to have this drawing on your paper before we start to paint in the class. You will be able to follow along that way. You can print out the photo and transfer onto your watercolor paper by using a light box, a window or transfer paper. Use a mechanical pencil and do not erase any marks you make as that will effect the fibers of your paper - something you don’t want to have.
My philosophy of watercolors is to let them be what they are … embrace all the beautiful things that can happen ~ if you let go and not try to control the paint. It does take practice but I promise that in time you will see the beauty in letting the paint, water and paper do the work for you simply by stepping aside and not trying to over control it in the beginning. We have time for that!
I will make it look easy - don’t get discouraged because with practice you too will find that the more you do it ~ the easier it becomes.
Come on and join me in a class...I take you through every step I take and leave nothing out, all you need to do is trust the process and get out of your own way.
I very much look forward to painting with you and taking you through this wonderful thing I call Fearless Watercolors
